The Canning Vale Sports Complex is an essential infrastructure project designed to address the growing demand for community sports facilities within the City of Canning and surrounding local governments.
Located within Lot 166-167 Clifton Road in Canning Vale, the project aims to significantly enhance the local community's access to high-quality sports infrastructure, particularly focusing on soccer, AFL, cricket, and athletics. This project will enhance social cohesion, liveability, and accessibility.
The project scope includes:
- two natural turf AFL fields for local and regional competition and training
- two integrated cricket pitches for summer sport, with capacity for a third pitch
- two natural turf soccer fields for junior and senior use, with tournament capacity
- one natural turf athletics and field sports area for training, school carnivals and community events
- cricket wickets and training nets for skills development and year-round participation
- clubroom and changeroom building with amenities and storage to support clubs, volunteers and spectactors
- sports lighting to key playing areas to extend evening and seasonal use
- allowance of 325 parking bays for stage 1.
Once complete, the Canning Vale Sports Complex will be a vital piece of community infrastructure, enabling year-round use, supporting talent pathways, and contributing to the health, wellbeing, and liveability of the broader south metropolitan region.

2025 – Project Scoping
The Canning Vale Sports Complex project has officially commenced.

2026 and 2027 – Planning phase
Throughout 2026 and 2027, the City will develop the existing concept, seek necessary construction and environmental approvals, and undertake relocation, re-vegetation, and rehabilitation requirements.

2026 and 2027 – Tendering
The design tender to take the concept through to detailed design will occur mid-2026 and the construction tender process will occur in 2027.

2027 and 2029 – Construction
It is anticipated construction will commence in mid-2027 and continue throughout 2028 and 2029.

2029 – Planned completion
It is anticipated the Canning Vale Sports Complex will open by mid-2029.
The design and project timeline are subject to change as consultants and contractors are engaged throughout the project.

The project is funded by the City, State and Federal governments.
Federal Government
This project is part of the Major and Local Community Infrastructure Program, aimed to deliver vital and community sporting infrastructure, open space improvements and other community priorities.
State Government
This project is part of the WA Government’s PlayOn WA, an exciting initiative to deliver 2,030 community infrastructure items across WA by 2030.
