In fulfilling its governance role, the City of Canning’s Council consists of democratically elected members. Ideally, a Council should be strategic and policy-oriented with the aim to ensure the peace, order and good governance of its municipality.
The City of Canning’s Council represents the interests of electors, ratepayers and residents within the district. Councillors participate in the Local Government’s decision-making processes at Council and committee meetings.
Currently the City’s Council consists of the Mayor and ten Councillors who represent five wards, with two Councillors per ward.
Results of the 2019 Local Government Elections were announced and confirmed by the Western Australian Electoral Commission on 19 October 2019. Councillors elected to Council in the election will be sworn in on 22 October 2019, when a Deputy Mayor will also be voted in.
