Inspection Checklist
Kindly check the following prior to the City inspection. Download the inspection checklist.
- Climbable objects – Remove any climbable objects from inside (within 300mm) or outside the barrier (up to 900mm).
- Climbable objects include tree branches, chairs, electrical outlets, tables, pot plants, pool pumps, pool blankets, gas bayonets, outdoor sinks, taps, landscaping stones/rocks, dog kennels, ladders, play equipment, BBQs and low retaining walls.
- Gates and doors – Check that any gates and doors that lead into a pool/spa area are self-closing and self-latching at all times and from ALL positions.
- In most instances, a small spray of lubricant on all the moving parts (hinges, latches, rollers and handles) yearly is enough to keep these in good order.
- Dividing fence – Check the condition of your dividing fence if it forms part of the pool/spa barrier. Over time, dividing fences can move or become damaged, which can create gaps that are larger than 100mm. It also pays to check where dividing fences join and change direction.
- Under your fence – Check the area under your fence to see whether there are gaps which are greater than 100mm. This can occur when pavers or the ground subsides over time or where pets may have been digging.
- Windows – Check any windows that lead into the pool area have sufficient security screens or are restricted from opening by a device that can only be removed with the use of a tool. Key locks are not an acceptable means of achieving compliance.
- Pool/spa barrier – Check your pool/spa barrier for damage that may create gaps which are larger than 100mm.
- Metal fence components – Check any metal fence components (bottom and top rails, spigots, brackets, screws, bolts etc.) for corrosion. Replace any parts that have rusted through.
- Trees and shrubs – Trim trees and shrubs near the barrier so that they cannot be used as aids for climbing over the barrier.
