Canning’s New District Level Playground, Wadjup Waabiny is Now Open!
The City of Canning has opened the new play space at Kent St Weir, giving the community a new space to relax, play and connect.
Wadjup is the traditional placename associated with the broader Canning Flats area, and Waabiny means “playing” in Noongar language. Located alongside the Djarlgarro Beeliar (Canning River), Wadjup Waabiny (Wad-jup Waah-bin) shares stories of Country and the six Noongar seasons, celebrating the importance of family, community and connection.
Bringing together play, culture and connection to Country, the play space offers opportunities for adventure, discovery and learning.
Through inclusive play experiences, public artworks and cultural storytelling, visitors of all ages are invited to explore, connect and enjoy this special riverside setting.
The play space forms part of the City's commitment to enhancing liveability and supporting an active, connected community.
It features dedicated junior and senior play areas, waterplay and shelters with picnic settings and BBQ facilities - all set amongst the mature trees.
Mayor Patrick Hall said the new play space reflects Canning's investment in quality community infrastructure.
"Kent St Weir gives families, dog walkers and sport groups a fantastic place to enjoy the outdoors," Mayor Hall said.
"This is a space designed for everyone, and I encourage the whole community to come down and make the most of it."
Thank you to Lotterywest for supporting this project and helping deliver a space the community can enjoy for years to come.
