Community Safety Expo headlines a month of safety activities in Canning
Canning residents, families and the wider community are invited to come together for the City of Canning’s Community Safety Expo 2026 on Saturday 24 October, as part of a month-long program of free activities focused on building awareness, strengthening community connections and creating a Safe Canning.
Held from 10am to 1pm at the Civic Park Stage & Amphitheatre in Cannington, the free Community Safety Expo will offer a fun and interactive day for people of all ages to learn more about community safety, connect with local services and enjoy a range of family-friendly activities.
The Expo will bring together WA Police, DFES and St John WA, giving the community the opportunity to meet the people who help keep Canning safe and learn more about the important work they do.
There will be plenty to see and do, including a free interactive fire truck tour, SES rescue recovery boat and ambulance tours, as well as a Constable Care puppet show, recommended for children from Kindy to Year 3.
Families can also enjoy a free petting zoo, reptile display and face painting, with free bike checks available for bike riders as part of Bike Week.
Chase the Police Pup from Paw Patrol will also be at the Expo, joining community and City of Canning stalls, mascots, a photobooth, competitions and prizes, with a sausage sizzle, coffee and ice cream available throughout the event.
The day will offer plenty of opportunities for the community to connect with local services, discover practical safety information and enjoy a fun family day out.
The Expo will operate as a drop-in event, allowing visitors to come along at a time that suits them and explore the activities at their own pace.
City of Canning Deputy Mayor Bain said the Expo was an opportunity for the community to come together, have fun and learn more about staying safe.
“Community safety is something we all have a role to play in, and the Community Safety Expo is a great opportunity to bring that message to life in a fun and engaging way,” Deputy Mayor Bain said.
“Residents will be able to meet the people and services who support our community, get involved in some great activities and learn practical ways they can contribute to a safer Canning.
“I encourage everyone to come along, bring the family and take the opportunity to connect with the organisations and people who help keep our community safe.”
The Community Safety Expo is the centrepiece of Community Safety Month, which returns to Canning throughout October with a range of free activities designed to build awareness around home security, personal safety, business safety, community connection, emergency preparedness and responsible pet ownership.
The Community Safety Survey is open from 1 to 31 October 2026, giving residents and businesses an opportunity to share their views and experiences on community safety in Canning. Everyone who completes the survey will also go into the running to win a $200 Visa gift card.
Other activities taking place throughout October include a Pet Photo Competition, Bike Workshops, Coffee with a Ranger, Safe Plate Day and Community Safety Pop-ups at locations across the City.
Pet owners can also enter the Pet Photo Competition, running from 1 to 31 October, with entrants in the running to have their pet’s lifetime registration refunded or win a $100 Petbarn voucher.
Deputy Mayor Bain said Community Safety Month offered something for people of all ages and interests.
“Whether you’re a pet owner, a cyclist, a local business owner or simply want to learn more about keeping yourself and your neighbourhood safe, there are plenty of ways to get involved throughout October,” Deputy Mayor Bain said.
“Most importantly, these activities are about bringing people together, encouraging conversations about safety and making sure our community knows where to find support and information.”
“I look forward to seeing our community come together at the Expo and throughout Community Safety Month as we work together to create a safer, stronger and more connected Canning.”
The Community Safety Expo is a free event, however registration is required. The event is outdoors, so attendees are encouraged to be prepared for weather conditions.
