Free clean energy advice for Canning residents

The City of Canning has recently partnered with ZapCat, an Australian certified social enterprise, to provide free, independent energy advice to help Canning residents save on bills, make their homes more comfortable, and make energy upgrades with confidence.

Over the next 12 months, ZapCat will offer 75 free consultations to homeowners, renters and business owners, providing free instant online estimates for costs, savings and rebates, a virtual consultation with an expert, access to local vetted installers, and quote reviews.

The service offers free advice on a range of energy upgrades, including solar panels and batteries, hot water heat pumps, electric vehicle charging, induction and electric cooktops, and reverse-cycle air conditioning.

According to Rewiring Australia and Electrify Everything WA Inc., the average Western Australian household could potentially save up to $3,500 per year in running costs with solar and battery, efficient electric appliances and electric vehicles.

ZapCat also offers practical tips on reducing energy bills through insulation, draught proofing and other energy efficiency improvements.

Mayor Patrick Hall said he was pleased to see Canning leading the way in helping residents better understand the transition to clean energy.

"Canning is leading the way in providing assistance to residents looking to transition to electric. We are the first local government in Western Australia to subscribe to ZapCat and offer its services to the community.

"Whether it's installing solar, upgrading appliances or improving energy efficiency, ZapCat provides residents with the information they need to make confident decisions that can reduce household costs and improve everyday comfort,” said Mayor Hall.
