Global Streets celebrates Canning's rich cultural diversity
04 April 2024

Back for its second year, the City of Canning’s cultural extravaganza, Global Streets, will be held at Queens Park Reserve on Saturday 20 April.

From 11am to 4pm the City’s rich cultural diversity will be celebrated as Queens Park Reserve is transformed into a vibrant cultural festival of people, food and customs.

Canning residents and visitors are invited to come along and taste new foods from cuisines from around the world, experience new customs and activities from a range of different cultures and enjoy a diverse range of live stage performances.

There will be a variety of food trucks, which will include vegetarian, halal and gluten free options, a kid’s zone to keep the little ones entertained, face painting, live stage entertainment and a whole host of activities for attendees to enjoy and experience.

Global Streets will also provide a unique opportunity for local cultural community groups to showcase products, demonstrations and activities that highlight their cultural backgrounds.

Deputy Mayor Amanda Spencer-Teo said she is excited to see Global Streets back on the calendar this year as it provides the community with a space celebrate Canning’s rich cultural diversity.

“The City of Canning is one of the most diverse local government areas in Western Australia with 50.9% of the population born overseas.

“Creating a safe and inclusive space to celebrate our City’s diversity is extremely important.

“Global Streets provides Canning residents and visitors with the prefect opportunity to come together to try new foods, and share their traditions and customs with each other,” Deputy Mayor Spencer-Teo said.

Patrons are encouraged to bring their own keep cups and reusable waters bottles. This is a dog friendly event, however dogs must be kept on a lead.

As there is limited onsite parking, people are encouraged to carpool, take public transport, walk, or ride a bike where possible. Free bike racks will be available for those considering riding down.
