Children's Book Week 2025

Book an Adventure in the City of Canning at this year's Children's Book Week!
Canning Libraries will be participating in Children’s Book Week, an event supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA). It is a milestone year for Children's Book Week as it celebrates its 80th anniversary!.
From Saturday 16 August to Saturday 23 August 2025, we have an exciting week of events planned to celebrate the joy of reading for children of all ages.
This year’s Book Week theme is Book an Adventure and we're encouraging children to set off on adventures through time, lands, and imagination. Events include:
- Rebecca Palmer – Art Workshop (7-11 years) – Saturday 16 August, 10am to 11am at Cannington Library
- Lorraine Horsley – Author Talk (5-12 years) – Monday 18 August, 3.30pm to 4.30pm at Riverton Library
- Gabriel Evans – Illustration Workshop (5-8 years) – Tuesday 19 August, 3.30pm to 4.30pm at Hillview Intercultural Community Centre
- Kate Emery – Interactive Author Talk (13+ years) – Wednesday 20 August, 4pm to 5pm at Riverton Library
- Tamara Moss – Mythical Creature Workshop (8-12 years) – Friday 22 August, 3.30pm to 4.30pm at Willetton Library
- Kristy Nita Brown – Musical Storytelling (5-8 years) – Saturday 23 August, 9.30am to 10.30am at Riverton Library
- Kristy Nita Brown – Stories Through Jewellery (9-11 years) – Saturday 23 August, 11am to 12pm at Riverton Library

Win prizes by attending
This year’s event is supported by prize giveaways and a competition prize draw for children attending the City’s Book Week events. Children (between 5 – 12 years old) will collect stickers at each event they attend.
Collect three stickers and they will receive a Book Week pen.
Collect all five stickers and they will go into the draw to win one of ten Children’s Book Week tote bags, which will be drawn on Tuesday 26 August 2025.
Sticker cards can be dropped off to a staff member at Riverton Library by 5pm Sunday, 24 August 2025 to go into the draw. Prizes can be collected until 5pm Friday 5 September 2025, any unclaimed prizes after this date will be forfeited.
