Restoring our Urban Forest – WA Tree Recovery Grant Program
The City of Canning is committed to protecting and growing our urban forest, particularly in response to the impacts of Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB), an invasive pest threatening Perth's trees.
Through the WA Tree Recovery Local Government Grant Program, the City has been awarded funding totalling $58,140 from the Western Australian Government, administered by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER).
This funding supports the City's efforts to replace trees lost to PSHB and undertake additional tree planting to strengthen our urban forest against future pest impacts.
By planting a diverse range of suitable tree species, with a focus on local tree species, the City aims to:
- restore lost shade
- reduce urban heat
- support local biodiversity
- support long-term canopy development
- create greener, more liveable neighbourhoods for future generations.
The City of Canning gratefully acknowledges the financial support provided by the Western Australian Government through the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation's WA Tree Recovery Local Government Grant Program.
