NAIDOC Week
Join us this NAIDOC Week (5 to 12 July 2026) as we celebrate ‘50 years of Deadly’, marking five decades of NAIDOC Week.
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
The City of Canning will be hosting and supporting a series of free events throughout NAIDOC Week this year, including the fifth annual NAIDOC Art Exhibition, NAIDOC Community Lunch, Sneakerlab Painting Workshop, a Paint the Country session and a Family Weaving Session.
For fifty years, NAIDOC themes have spoken to survival, resistance, culture and pride. They have honoured Elders and leaders, celebrated creativity, and challenged the nation to listen, reckon and act. Each theme has marked a moment in time, capturing where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were, and where the country needs to pay attention.
