Canning celebrates Seniors Week with a packed program of activities
The City of Canning is inviting older residents to try something new, meet new people and enjoy a week of activities – most of them free - as part of Seniors Week 2026, from 8 to 15 November.
With a diverse program spanning health and wellbeing, creativity, entertainment and social activities, Seniors Week offers plenty of opportunities to get involved, discover new interests and enjoy time with others.
This year's program offers a diverse mix of activities designed to entertain, inspire and bring people together. Residents can enjoy music and sing-alongs, try their hand at line dancing, Tai Chi or arts and crafts, and unwind with crystal bowl sound healing.
The celebrations also include opportunities to share stories and experiences, with a special focus on cultural diversity and connection through events such as Sharing Stories and Building Belonging and the Our Voices book launch. From community morning teas and health and wellbeing sessions to practical workshops and a lively Seniors Community Festival, there's something to appeal to a wide range of interests.
City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall said Seniors Week was a wonderful opportunity for residents to step outside their usual routines and enjoy everything their community has to offer.
“Sometimes all it takes is trying one new activity or striking up a conversation with someone you haven't met before to open the door to something really rewarding,” Mayor Hall said.
“We want our older residents to feel encouraged to get out, have some fun and perhaps discover an interest they never knew they had. Whether it's joining a dance class, learning a new skill or simply sharing a morning tea, there are plenty of reasons to come along.”
Beyond the activities and entertainment, Seniors Week also provides an opportunity to recognise the significant contribution older people make to the Canning community.
Through volunteering, caring for family members, sharing knowledge and experience, and participating in local organisations, older residents play an important role in the life of the City.
Mayor Hall said the week was as much about recognising those contributions as it was about encouraging people to participate.
“Our older residents have helped shape Canning into the community it is today, and they continue to make an enormous difference through the many roles they play in everyday life,” he said.
“Seniors Week is our chance to say thank you, but it's also a reminder that getting older doesn't necessarily mean slowing down or stepping back. There are still adventures to be had, friendships to make and plenty of opportunities to contribute.”
With activities catering to a variety of interests and abilities, the City encourages residents to explore the program, invite a friend and make the most of the celebrations.
