Ranford Oval lights up

The City of Canning has switched the lights on at Ranford Oval, completing a $456,000 investment into modern sports lighting at the home of Canning Vale Junior Football Club, Ranford Soccer Club, Canning Vale Cricket Club and Ranford Red Athletics Club.

The project saw six brand new towers installed, providing a minimum of 50 Lux lighting for training sessions and 100 Lux for competitive night games and was part-funded by the State Government, through a contribution of $135,300 from its Club Night Lights Program.

“The new lighting is very impressive,” said City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall. “It will go a long way towards improving the quality of sporting events here at Ranford Oval, while fostering a vibrant community atmosphere with a well-lit and accessible space for local athletes and families.

“This investment into our welcoming and thriving City will increase capacity for local clubs to grow their programs, train and play night matches. It will also improve the oval as a community space for residents of Canning.

“On behalf of the City I’d like to thank the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS) for its significant contribution to getting the lighting installed. Likewise, our gratitude is extended to Ranford Primary School for its support and collaboration during the project.”

While winter sports will be able to take advantage of extended training hours, summer sports will also benefit from the flexibility that the new lighting offers – with cooler practice times available on hot summer days.

The honourable Stephen Pratt, MLA for Jandakot commented, “Turning on these lights means turning on more opportunities for community sport in Canning Vale. With Ranford Junior Soccer Club, Canning Vale Junior Football Club and Canning Vale Cricket Club all calling Ranford Oval home, this investment will help local players spend more time doing what they love.”
