The $10.6 million redevelopment will bring a new food and beverage offering, an upgraded driving range and dedicated entertainment bays to the much-loved Parkwood venue - creating more reasons to visit Whaleback, whether you’re a golfer or not.

At the heart of the new precinct is Tales Bar and Eats, transforming the former alfresco area into a contemporary, casual dining venue. With a Mediterranean-inspired menu alongside familiar favourites for the whole family, whether you are spending time with loved ones, catching up with friends or simply enjoying a meal or drink, Tales has something for you.

Whaleback is also one of the few public golf courses in Western Australia to operate its own in-house kitchen, giving the City greater control over the quality and experience offered to visitors.

The driving range has also undergone a major transformation. The Pod Driving Range combines eight new catered entertainment bays with 39 upgraded standard driving range bays, all featuring Trackman technology.

The new entertainment bays are designed to make the driving range just as suited to a night out with friends or family as it is to serious golfers, while Trackman brings ball tracking, virtual courses, games and performance data to the entire range.

City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall said the redevelopment was about building on what people already love about Whaleback while opening the venue to a much broader audience.

“Whaleback has been part of the Canning community for more than 40 years, and this investment is about making sure it continues to be a place people want to visit for decades to come,” Mayor Hall said.

“Whether you’re here for a round of golf, meeting friends for dinner, bringing the family down or having your first ever swing at the driving range, we want Whaleback to feel like a place for everyone.

“Importantly, the $10.6 million redevelopment has been funded through Whaleback’s operating budgets, reinvesting in this much-loved community asset and its future.”

The redevelopment represents one of the biggest changes in Whaleback’s history, while retaining its role as an accessible public golf course owned by the City of Canning.

Mayor Hall said the new precinct would help Whaleback compete with private entertainment venues while ensuring an important community asset remained in public hands.

“With plans for a new playground in the next 12 months in addition to works on the car park which will see more bays added, we’re incredibly excited for people to experience the new Whaleback.”

“Long-time golfers will find plenty that is familiar, but there are now many more reasons for the wider community to come and enjoy the venue too.”
