Visiting the Library
All
To support visitors with low vision or mobility needs, large print keyboards and height-adjustable desks are available at Riverton, Cannington, and Willetton Libraries.
Interpreters are available by prior arrangement over the phone. If possible, please give staff advanced notice so an interpreter can be booked.
Guide Dogs are always welcome. We are delighted to inform you that the library and memberships are always free.
Here's what you can enjoy without a library card:
- Visit the library – come in and explore all we have to offer!
- Connect to our free Wi-Fi on your own device, with power points available to charge it.
- Relax and read a newspaper, magazine, or book within the library.
- Play in-house games like UNO or chess.
- Bring your own crafts, jigsaws, or study materials to work on.
- Meet with a Justice of the Peace during appointment hours.
- Book into our exciting events and programs.
- Sign up to our newsletter to be kept informed on what is happening in the libraries.
With an online membership you can enjoy everything above and:
- You can use our public computers for 2 hours each day for free (a $2 fee applies for non-members).
- Gain access to our online eResources (Libby, Hoopla, Borrowbox, Kanopy) which allow you to read magazines, eBooks, graphic novels but also listen to eAudiobooks and watch movies.
With a full membership, you'll enjoy all the benefits listed above, plus:
- Borrow up to 20 items, including books, DVDs, jigsaw puzzles, graphic novels, games, and audiobooks.
- Access special collections, including dyslexic friendly font books, sensory board books, large print books, books in Languages Other Than English (LOTE), and adult literacy resources.
- Borrow dementia aids like our Active Minds puzzles and Memory Bags (including LOTE versions).
- Explore our Library of Things, where you can borrow sporting equipment, board games, musical instruments, technology, book packs, hobby items, and Nintendo Switch and PlayStation games.
Please note: Our libraries are not quiet all the time. The staff are available to help if things need calming down. We have lots of activities and people in the library and it is not silent.
We welcome drinks with lids in the library. We ask that you only enjoy dry, odourless food inside the library, any other food will need to be eaten outside the library or in the courtyards.
We have water stations available at all libraries so you can refill your own bottle.
Are you unable to get to the library? Our Books on Wheels program will assist housebound community members by delivering library items to their house.
Visit the Books on Wheels page to learn more and sign-up. Conditions do apply.
Would you like to borrow a book that we don’t have in our catalogue? Ask one of the friendly staff to make a request to our Collections team! We might be able to get a copy for you. The request is completely free as we would love to try to get the book for you and other members of the library to enjoy.
You can also make the request yourself on the Canning Libraries website by clicking ‘Request an Item’ when you are logged in.
We have printing facilities to use at Riverton, Cannington, Willetton and Hillview.
