Helping residents cut plastic waste, with new refill station at Cannington Leisureplex

The City of Canning has launched a new initiative to help residents reduce their single-use plastic waste with a zero-waste refill station now installed at the Cannington Leisureplex.

The Skipping Stones Refill Station offers a range of products including hand and body wash, shampoo and conditioner, dishwashing liquid, all-purpose cleaner, as well as laundry liquid and softener. Residents can bring their own clean containers and pay only for the amount they want to refill.

To encourage use of the refill station, the City is also introducing a Refill Reward Program, offering residents a one-off $50 reward after four refills to use at the Station.

All household products available through the refill station are locally made in Perth, with eco-conscious ingredients.

City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall said that the initiative aims to make sustainable alternatives more accessible to Canning residents.

“The small everyday actions that we take today can make a big difference in creating a sustainable environment for tomorrow.

“This initiative builds upon the leadership and hard work the City has demonstrated in the circular economy space, and we are proud to continue our efforts to build a more sustainable Canning for the future,” Mayor Hall said.

As part of the City’s broader vision for a circular economy, a range of sustainability initiatives are available to the community, these include on-demand donations collections, bi-monthly Repair Labs as well as a range of Eco Rebates.
