Important Speed Limit Changes in Willetton
In time for Term 2 of the school year, new speed limits on Pinetree Gully Road and Burrendah Boulevard, Willetton, have taken effect in the City of Canning on 23 April 2025. These changes aim to enhance safety for our community, especially our school children.

The new speed limits will be implemented along:
Pinetree Gully Road
- The speed limit on Pinetree Gully Road, Willetton, between Kingsford Drive and Balboa Row will be formalised to 40km/h all day and will include the school zones for Willetton Senior High School, Burrendah Primary School, and Castlereagh Primary School.
- Additional improvements will include traffic calming measures on Pinetree Gully Road between Castlereagh Close and Wainwright Close, the installation of a median island on Wainwright Close, and enhancements to the pedestrian crossing and path. These upgrades are part of the 2025-26 Black Spot Program, funded with $343,500 from the Australian Government.
Burrendah Boulevard
- The speed limit on Burrendah Boulevard, Willetton, between Vahland Avenue and Kennon Street and between Karel Avenue and Burren Gate will be reduced to the default Built Up Area (BUA) speed of 50km/h.
- The speed limit on Burrendah Boulevard, Willetton, between Kennon Street and Burren Gate will be reduced to 40km/h, which includes the high pedestrian areas of Willetton Basketball Stadium and Southlands Shopping Centre.
City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall emphasised the importance of these changes, stating, "Enhancing the overall quality of life for the local community is a top priority. By implementing these new speed limits, we aim to create safer streets for everyone."
Willetton Senior High School Principal, Trevor Hunter, also expressed strong support for the changes: "I wholeheartedly endorse the proactive measures taken by the City of Canning to restructure the traffic speed limits and improve the pedestrian crossing on Pine Tree Gully Road. These changes will significantly enhance the safety of our students and families, particularly in a school community of over 2,700 students. Given that many families and students move through the precinct throughout the day, often outside reduced speed times and without the assistance of our crossing guards, these improvements are both necessary and timely."

Burrendah Primary Independent Public School Principal, Sheri Evans, added, "We are delighted to be able to partner with the City of Canning and Willetton Senior High School to achieve such a positive outcome for our students, their parents and carers, and the wider community of Willetton. The safety of our children on their way to and from school is of paramount importance. These new speed limits will support our efforts to promote a child and pedestrian friendly environment at peak times and remind everyone of the importance of caution when driving in and around schools."

Mayor Hall further highlighted the broader impact of these changes, stating, "We are committed to making Canning a welcoming and thriving community for all residents and visitors.”
“These changes in Willetton are part of our broader strategy to enhance road safety and ensure that our streets are safe for pedestrians and all road users alike."
