New Whaleback Entertainment Precinct Now Open!

More than 1,600 people entered a competition to attend two exclusive sneak peek events at Whaleback Golf Course, highlighting strong community interest in the precinct’s new entertainment offering.

Competition winners joined City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall at Tales Bar and Eats on Wednesday 2 September, getting an early taste of its Mediterranean-inspired menu before it opened to the wider public. Mayor Hall also had the honour of pouring the first beer of the night.

A second sneak peek was held on Wednesday 9 September at The Pod Driving Range, where guests were among the first to experience eight new catered entertainment bays and 39 upgraded standard driving range bays.

Mayor Hall joined City of Canning Chief Executive Officer Michael Littleton to officially open the new range, hitting the first shots of the night.

Guests at both events welcomed the transformation of Whaleback and the addition of a new entertainment destination in the area.

"It's going to make a big impact on everyone," one local resident said. "We need something more community focused around here in Parkwood."

Guests trying the Tales Bar and Eats menu praised the variety, fresh ingredients and range of options.

"There was such a great variety of flavours, with fresh seafood, burgers, pasta and even great vegetarian options that don't feel like an afterthought," another said.

"The fresh ingredients added so much to the flavours and combinations of dishes. It's clear the team in the kitchen really cares about the quality of their food," another guest said.

Local golfer Josiah Edwards was also among the first to put the upgraded range to the test, taking on elected members at The Pod.

Edwards first came to Whaleback as a child with his father and has since been named in Golf Australia's 2026 High Performance Squad.

"Whaleback was one of my first driving ranges and it's getting better every time," Edwards said.

"It looks amazing. It was time for an upgrade. It's good to have it more modern and more vibrant, and it'll get the people down."

He said the new technology also made the experience more accessible for people picking up a golf club for the first time.

Mayor Hall said the response to the competition showed the level of anticipation surrounding the new precinct.

"More than 1,600 people put their hand up for a seat at these events, which tells you just how much interest there is in the new Whaleback," Mayor Hall said.

"Whaleback has been a local favourite for decades, but you no longer need to be a golfer to enjoy it.

"Whether it's dinner and drinks at Tales, a night at The Pod with friends, a work function or something different for the family, we're creating a place the whole community can enjoy."
