Supporting the community toward energy efficient living

The City of Canning is supporting the community’s shift towards cleaner, more energy efficient living by offering a series of free workshops, focused on home electrification.

As part of the initiative, residents can also borrow practical tools from Canning Libraries, including portable induction cooktops and home energy audit kits, to explore and gain a better understanding of the energy saving solutions in their homes.

Throughout May and June, the free workshops will be held at the Canning River Eco Education Centre (CREEC) and will focus on topics such as Building an Energy Efficiency Home, Planning Your Electrification Transition, Is an EV Right for You, Heating and Cooling Your Home and Solar Panels.

Mayor Patrick Hall has welcomed the new initiative aimed at helping residents make informed choices about home electrification.

“Electrifying your home is a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly choice, and as our energy grid becomes increasingly powered by renewables, electricity is becoming a cleaner energy source.

“As part of the initiative, residents will be able to borrow portable induction cooktops to test at home before deciding to purchase their own.

“This trial opportunity gives the community a practical way to explore the benefits of electric cooking, helping them feel confident in their investment.

“The home energy audit kits will also allow residents to investigate the water and energy efficiency of their homes, helping them to reduce energy bills and work towards a more sustainable planet,” said Mayor Hall.

To further assist the community, the City is looking at options to offer another round of solar rebates in the upcoming financial year, which could provide eligible residents with a rebate of up to $500 and $700 for concession holders. For more information go to www.canning.wa.gov.au/ecorebates.
